What Ember includes and where it comes from

Ember is built on many open-source projects. This page lists the components and their licenses, how Apple components and AI models are handled, and the sources of this website’s material and measurements. Applies to Ember version 1.0 .

1Ember’s own components

© 2026 Ember. All rights reserved.

The Ember app, our EmberCore engine (Ember Flow, Guard, Forge, Tone, Flare, Pulse, Spark, Kiln, Boost, Lens), models trained by Ember, and the Ember character and artwork are proprietary Ember software and assets. Use is governed by the terms of service.

EmberCore is a separate library from the open-source components. Ember’s modifications and interfaces within LGPL components such as Wine and DXMT follow those components’ LGPL licenses, and their source is published.

LGPL source code and your rights

LGPL components included in Ember (Wine, DXMT, GStreamer, GLib, FFmpeg, GnuTLS, and others) follow the GNU LGPL. Complete source code for each component, Ember’s changes, and build settings are available from the source code page.

If the source code page is unavailable, email realnoma@naver.com within 3 years of receiving Ember. We will provide the same source code for no more than the cost of the medium and transfer. This offer is valid for anyone who receives Ember.

LGPL components are included as separate libraries (.so·.dylib·.dll). You may modify them or replace them with rebuilt versions. Replacement instructions are provided in the source code package.

Ember’s terms of service do not prevent modification of LGPL components or reverse engineering to debug modified versions.

Game Mode launch approach — ForgePlay

Ember’s Game Mode launch approach—using a game-category host app for each game so that macOS recognizes it as a game—was informed by ForgePlay Game Mode. Ember wrote its own code, including LaunchServices launching, automatic Game Mode detection, and Ember Boost. No ForgePlay Game Mode code (GPL-3.0-only) is included.

7 Wine changes — ForgePlay

The Wine changes below were taken from the Wine 11.12 patches (LGPL-2.1-or-later) distributed with ForgePlay 1.3 and added to Ember’s Wine. Original copyright notices are retained, and the changes are included in Ember’s source code package.

  • Xbox Series Bluetooth controller input cleanup (winebus.sys forgeplay_xbox_iohid.h·bus_iohid.c) — WineCX · WineARM64
  • XInput capability detection (xinput) — WineCX · WineARM64
  • Video output format negotiation (winegstreamer) — WineCX
  • Legacy vertex interface (wined3d) — WineCX
  • Shader information on Vulkan reset (wined3d) — WineCX
  • WoW64 Vulkan host memory ownership (win32u vulkan.c) — WineCX
  • Dynamic unwind table lookup cache (ntdll unwind.c, rewritten with an expanded approach) — all three Wine builds

9Game screenshots

Game screenshots on this website were captured while running the games in Ember. Rights to the game screens and the names and artwork within them belong to their respective developers and publishers.

Character names, guild names, other players’ nameplates, and account information in screenshots have been obscured so they cannot be identified.

10Performance measurement conditions

All measurements were taken on this Mac (M4 Pro MacBook Pro, 14-core CPU·20-core GPU). Resolution and graphics settings varied by game. Results also vary by scene and settings within the same game.

DXMT installed at 13:55 automatically adjusts the low-latency presentation queue. Internal latency (render queue + presentation) is not latency from physical input to the panel. Input→screen measurements use the ScreenCaptureKit compositing path and exclude the monitor’s own latency. Improvement percentages from different scenes and runs cannot be added together, and no fixed latency is guaranteed.

11Lost Ark boss HUD

The boss HUD reads only text visible on the game screen, locally on your Mac, and displays it at a larger size. It does not read or modify game memory, send keyboard or mouse input on your behalf, or access game files or communications.

Use of each game is still governed by that game’s terms of service. Please review them before using this feature.
